What speaker bureaus do

Bureaus like European Speakers Bureau, Kruger Cowne and speakers.com maintain curated rosters of speakers they represent. They offer concierge booking: you describe the event, they recommend names, and they handle the logistics. The fee is commission on the speaker’s rate.

At the top of the market — keynotes at €20,000+ — a bureau relationship is genuinely valuable. They know the speakers, they have seen them on stage, and that institutional memory is their product.

The structural difference

A bureau will not list someone it cannot bill for. That is not a flaw in their model — it is the model. But it means the €1,000–10,000 practitioner tier is permanently absent from every bureau roster.

If your budget is a keynote fee, use a bureau. If your budget is a conference speaking slot and you need someone who has demonstrably taken a stage, that population is not on any roster.

speakerstrail indexes public agendas. The speaker does not need to be represented, agency-signed or even aware they are listed. The record is a fact about a conference, not a commercial relationship.

Where we stop

Bureaus handle fees, availability, contracts and logistics. We hold none of it.

A bureau’s recommendation carries their professional judgement and industry knowledge. Our directory carries links. The two are different products answering different questions at different price points.
